The short answer
Every Tote Relay moving tote package includes rolling moving dollies (Studio 1 dolly, 1-Bedroom 2 dollies, 2-3 Bedroom 2 dollies plus a free extra one on request, 3-4 Bedroom 3 dollies), delivered with your totes and collected with them, at no extra charge. We do not rent dollies on their own. For a fridge or heavy furniture you need an appliance or furniture dolly, which U-Haul and many home improvement stores rent by the day.
The dolly that comes with your totes
Our dollies are flat, four-wheel rolling dollies sized to the totes. Stack up to five full totes on one and roll the whole stack down the hall, up the ramp and into the truck in one trip instead of five. On a hot Phoenix moving day, fewer trips is the whole point.
They arrive with the totes, stay with you for the whole rental, and go back the same way: stack them with the empty totes on pickup day and we collect everything together. There is no separate dolly fee and no store to return it to.

Which moving dolly do you need?
"Dolly" covers four different tools. Most moves need the first one most of the day, and one of the others for an hour.

Using a moving dolly safely
- Heaviest totes at the bottom, lightest on top, and no more than five high.
- Push the stack rather than pulling it, and keep one hand on the top tote over door thresholds, ramps and curbs.
- Take stairs one tote at a time. A dolly is for flat ground and ramps, not steps.
- In summer, load early. Totes arrive by 9 AM on delivery day and the dollies stay with you for the whole rental, so on move day you can start rolling stacks out at sunrise, in the coolest hours.

- Can I rent just a dolly from Tote Relay?
- No. Our dollies come with our moving tote packages, delivered with the totes and collected with them. If you only need a dolly, U-Haul and the tool rental counters at many home improvement stores rent hand trucks and dollies by the day.
- How many dollies come with a moving tote rental?
- It depends on the package: Studio 1 dolly, 1-Bedroom 2 dollies, 2-3 Bedroom 2 dollies plus a free extra one on request, 3-4 Bedroom 3 dollies. The dollies stay with you for the whole 7-day rental.
- How many totes fit on one dolly?
- Up to five, stacked. Put the heaviest totes at the bottom and keep a hand on the top one when you roll the stack over a threshold or down a ramp.
- Do I need a hand truck or a dolly for moving?
- For boxes and totes, a flat four-wheel dolly is faster: you roll a whole stack at once and nothing has to be tipped back. For a fridge, washer or tall dresser you want an appliance dolly with straps. For a heavy chest or cabinet, a furniture dolly.
