How many totes a student move needs
A furnished dorm room is usually 8 to 12 boxes, which is cheaper to buy as cardboard than to rent. A studio or 1-bedroom apartment is 15 to 35, and that is where renting earns its keep: the Studio package's 20 totes and 1 dolly arrive at your door and leave from your new one.

- First-year students move into the Tempe residence halls in mid-August, a few days before classes. In 2026 move-in was August 15 and 16 and classes began August 20. Your own move-in slot appears on My ASU.
- When do I have to move out of ASU housing in May?
- ASU Housing sets a check-out deadline each spring. In 2026 it was noon on May 9 for residents not staying for summer. For spring 2027, classes end April 30 and final exams run May 3 to 8; the move-out deadline is published by ASU Housing.
